Plans for a 130-chalet holiday complex in Black Wood were rejected last year. Now, the Society has learned that Winchester City Council is expecting a new application from the developers.

Over the last couple of years the Society has worked closely with Micheldever Parish Council to monitor Forest Holidays’ plans for 130 holiday chalets at Black Wood. Our objection last March was amongst more than 120 representations received by the City Council’s planners.

Last May, Councillors rejected the company’s proposals because of the harm that the development would do to the protected ancient woodland and its surroundings. They also accepted the Society’s view that the scheme would create a dangerous increase in traffic levels on local roads.

However, the City Council is now expecting a fresh application from the developers. The company’s proposals are likely to include a reduced number of chalets, and a revised environmental impact assessment is also being prepared.

“This news is unwelcome, but not unexpected,” says the Society’s chairman Douglas Paterson. “We’ll look at the new proposals impartially and work to achieve the best solution for this important site and local residents.”
