The story begins in 1975, when Eagle Star bought the 10,000 acre Sutton Scotney Estate from the executors of the Lord Rank estate. Since then, a complex tale of growing aspirations and official rejection has unfolded. | |||
| Nowhere in the glossy publications describing its new town proposal does Eagle Star mention how the proposed site is currently used. In fact, this area is highly productive agricultural land. | ||||
| Studies on the implications of a new town at Micheldever were published ten years ago in the context of the Hampshire County Structure Plan. We think that the impact of current proposals would be even more alarming. | ||||
| The Government proposed the construction of ten new ‘eco-towns’ in its Housing Green Paper (July 2007). The initiative is designed to help achieve its revised target of 3 million new homes in England by 2020. | ||||
